A little help
Find your way
back to listening.
Start with a soundscape. Bring a sound closer. Let it unfold. Here are a few things to help you feel at home in Raumo.
Your first listen
In the app, choose a soundscape or a playlist on Home and tap Play. Tap the play bar to open the room. You can keep listening as it is, or make a small change and hear where it takes you.
On this website, choose a listening example and press Play. These are recordings of Raumo’s audio engine. Sound begins only when you ask for it.
Questions, answered
What is Raumo?
Raumo is an iPhone app that composes ambient music while you listen. Its soundscapes for sleep, focus, unwinding and daydreaming are written live on your iPhone, so no two plays are the same.
Every sound has a place in a room around you. Bring one closer to hear it louder, choose a Place for the whole room, or shape its Mood.
Is Raumo generative AI?
No. Raumo’s composer follows musical rules: harmony, melody, rhythm and form are worked out on your iPhone as it plays. No AI model writes the music and nothing is generated online. The artwork is procedural, too.
Does the music ever repeat?
Each track is composed once, as you hear it. Ask for a new variation and the soundscape develops anew inside its own recognisable sound; Raumo checks that it differs from what came before.
A moment you keep is the one exception: Raumo stores its musical recipe, so it can compose it again exactly as it played.
Is the music prerecorded?
Raumo composes its music as you listen. It plays it with synthesised and modelled instruments and recorded instrument samples. The Flow playlist adds recorded drum loops, and nature layers are field recordings released under CC0 1.0, a public domain dedication.
The examples on this website are recordings of Raumo’s audio engine, so you can hear the app before trying it. They are labelled as recorded examples.
How do I shape the room?
Open the player and bring a sound closer to hear it louder, or place it farther away to hear it more quietly and at a distance. Use the plus button in the sound bar to add a sound.
Tap a sound to choose how it plays, change its sound within the same family, or quiet or remove it. An original catalog mix becomes your editable room when you make your first change. You can return to the original mix from the player.
What are Place and Mood?
Place changes the acoustic space around the whole soundscape. Mood shapes its darkness, width, musical movement and colour. Their buttons sit beside the sound bar in the player.
These changes belong to the whole room. A sound’s position is the way to change how close and loud that individual source feels.
How does Drift work?
Drift creates new soundscapes with their own musical character, sounds, names and procedural artwork. One transforms into the next as you listen. Flow, Unwind, Sleep, Daydream, Haze and Handpan each have a different musical character.
Catalog is a separate playlist: it moves through Raumo’s authored soundscapes, composing a new performance of each one. Nature and Noise & Tape offer places and textures without music.
Do I need headphones?
You can listen on your iPhone’s speaker or with headphones. Headphones make the placement of sounds easier to hear. Binaural tones are best heard with headphones because they send a different tone to each ear.
Optional head tracking uses compatible headphones that report their movement. Turn it on from the player’s menu and allow motion access if asked. You can continue listening without head tracking.
Can I listen offline?
The app composes on your iPhone and includes its sound sources, so listening does not require a music stream or online generation. The website’s recorded examples need to be loaded by your browser.
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign in to, no advertising and no third-party analytics. What Raumo learns about your taste stays on your iPhone; what you keep can sync through your own iCloud.
Can I keep a room or a moment?
Save an edited room with a name to return to it. To keep a particular performance, choose “Keep this moment” from the player’s menu. Your rooms and kept moments appear in Your Raumo.
A kept moment stores the musical recipe rather than an audio file. Raumo composes it again when you return. If an engine update changes how that recipe is played, the app lets you know.
What does Sleep mean?
Sleep is a playlist of slow, dark soundscapes for the night. The player also has a sleep timer, including a custom duration, to bring a listening session to a gentle close.
What do binaural tones and noise do?
They are sounds to choose from: binaural tones send a slightly different tone to each ear, and white, pink and brown noise are steady textures. Raumo makes no promise about what any of them does to sleep, focus or mood.
How do I clear my listening history?
Open Your Raumo, then the Settings gear, and choose “Clear Listening History.” This clears recently played soundscapes, the listening behind your profile, your diary and the variations composed for you.
Your favourites, saved rooms and moments you deliberately kept remain. You can remove those individually.
Can I keep the website still?
The website follows your device’s Reduce Motion setting. With it on, the animations stay still, and you can keep reading and listening.
Which devices does Raumo need?
Raumo is made for iPhone and needs iOS 17 or later. It is in English.
Where can I get Raumo?
Raumo for iPhone is not yet on the App Store. A download link will appear here once it is.
